“I’m beautiful, I’m worthy, and those mean words can’t hurt me”

Kids across the country are heading back to school for the fall, but not all of them will be having fun and making new friends.

Bullying in the learning environment remains an issue for many children, and Khari Toure just couldn’t stand to see his daughter, Nia, become yet another victim.

“As a result, I decided to create a song about the importance of self-love: an anthem with positive affirmations that children could recite daily,” the Oakland based hip-hop artist shared on YouTube.

The video for “Love Yourself” opens with Toure consoling his daughter, and the song plays out as a conversation between Nia and her loving father.

Toure also invited local special needs children for the video after learning from a friend how frequent they are targeted for bullying.

The song preaches confidence and loving who you are regardless of what others may say to hurt you.

Toure has received praise from both teachers and parents, according to his Facebook page.

“I’ve even had therapists tell me that they are using the song and video for some of their clients,” he posted on Facebook. “Hopefully this song and video will help heal the hurt of a bullied child.”
