After finding cash on a sidewalk, Toronto man gives Tim Hortons worker $100 tip

A Toronto man found $200 on a sidewalk — and saw it as an opportunity to make someone's day.

Tavis McKenzie, a 34-year-old entrepreneur, found two $100 bills near the intersection of York Mills and Don Mills. He stayed in the area, waiting for the original owner of the cash to return and claim it, but no one came.

Instead of keeping the cash for himself, he opted to give half of it away.

"Found $200 bucks on the sidewalk. On a whim decided to surprise and delight the next person I saw," Tavis McKenzie wrote on Facebook.

"So pass it on, do something nice for the next person you see," he encouraged.

So McKenzie surprised a Tim Hortons worker with a $100 tip.

The cautious woman suggested he donate the money to charity before graciously accepting his generous tip. To thank him, she didn't charge him for his small coffee.

McKenzie told the Huffington Post that he posted a video of his generous gesture to encourage his Facebook friends to do the same.

"The more people see this kind of thing the more people will do this kind of thing," he said. "We need gifting with no expectation of reciprocation...that's what matters."

"There's too much negative in the news," he added.

"That renewed my faith in humanity for two reasons. 1, he gave away 100 dollars. 2, her first reaction was to say 'give it to charity,'" Sherry Osborne commented on YouTube. "This made my day."

"Very cool and fun to do. Imagine the fun you would have as a billionaire," wrote Jimmy Palmiotti.

"If only most billionaires agreed with you," McKenzie responded.

What would you if you found $200?
