Girl donates her hair to kids with cancer for the second time

Five-year-old Emily James is a little girl with a big heart, whose compassion for others is something we can all strive for.

In this video, James can be seen receiving her second ever haircut, with the intention of donating her long locks to the Canadian Cancer Society, reports The Huffington Post.

The clippings will be used to help make a wig for child cancer patients who’ve lost their hair due to chemotherapy.

James has her hair clipped by stylist Matthew Collins at Toronto’s Brennen Demelo Studio. Her motivation for donating her locks, which she explains will be made into “a hat made out of hair,” is simple yet inspired.

“It won’t feel very nice to not have hair,” she said. “You know when someone gets a cookie and you don’t? And you’re feeling like, ‘Aww! It’s not fair, I should get a cookie and they should get a cookie!’”

Two years ago, in a video that went viral, James and her Rapunzel doll each received matching bob haircuts. The video led to her appearing on talk shows to tell her story, an experience she reflects on in her latest video.

“I got to meet some little girls that were my age that had cancer,” she said. “At first I felt sad about them, and then I started to have fun with them and play with them.”

It was these memories of the friends she made that inspired her to share her hair again, in hopes of helping them overcome the many difficulties that come with cancer treatment.

“I remember the friends that I met that had cancer, and that’s why I wanted to cut my hair again.”
