Eighteen-year-old Reddit user weezerbeth recently posted a before-and-after photo of herself, showing an incredible transformation after enduring three jaw surgeries.

The entire reconstructive process took three years.

She shared her story with curious Redditors.

"Baby teeth were crooked and not coming out, but then more teeth were coming in and everything went screwy. I never remember having straight teeth. Chewing was mainly hard because of tmj. A lot of hard foods would stress and hurt my jaw and make it pop and stuff," she wrote.

"These surgeries were purely for medical purposes, but they still resulted in a plastic surgery affect [sic]. Although I wouldn't consider plastic surgery, my view on it completely changed after I had my jaw surgeries. I realized society has a double standard almost," she added.

The teen wrote that despite being picked on for her looks, she found great friends who loved her just the way she was:

"When I was younger, I got made fun of a ton. I was actually 13 when I was a sophomore in high school which was really rough because I obviously felt out of place and was never friends with the 'pretty girls.' However, as a result, I made some of the best friends ever. They didn't like me because I was pretty. My friends liked me because I was funny and we liked the same things. They have always stuck by my side, not knowing one day I would look a little better."

Her "after" photo encouraged others going through similarly painful treatments.

"I'm 24 and decided to get a brace for the second time to finally correct my teeth, it's day 4 and it broke twice and the pain is awful. Seeing this reminded me of why I'm doing all this again. Thanks for sharing, they look great," wrote Reddit user z0333.

"It'll be worth it! good luck!" weezerbeth wrote.
