Google grants 97-year-old’s dream of seeing the future

For 97-year-old Olive Horrell her wish of seeing the future was recently granted through a non-profit organization called Senior Wish of a Lifetime and Google.

Horrell got to spend the day on a special VIP tour around one of the largest technology companies in the world, CNN reports.

She spent the day at the Google’s Mountain View campus in California, getting a ride in a self-driving car, creating her own Google Doodle, talking to engineers about The Cloud and experiencing Google’s DIY virtual-reality headset, the news outlet reports.

“There’s no way I can understand that,” Horrell said in the CNN video when she put on headphones and held the viewer up to her eyes. “The horse, I was so sure I could touch the horse.”

The 97-year-old grew up on a farm with no electricity or indoor plumbing. She dreamed of becoming an engineer one day, according to Business Insider.

But during her times, gender stereotypes were common and her dad discouraged her, telling her they would never hire a woman.

For three years, Horrell thought about her wish of seeing the future and visiting Google after she heard about the Wish for a Lifetime program, according to CNN.

Fast forward to today, the folks at Google were more than happy to give the aspiring engineer a tour around the campus.

“Certainly in my wildest dreams, I couldn’t conceive of what I saw today,” she told CNN.
