Shoppers surprised by grocery store acts of kindness

Mike Lewis of JesusPainter Ministries and Rob Westerman of SNC Norwood paid for stranger's groceries to make a difference and attract people to church.

Two high school friends set out one day to spread love and make a difference for a few random people.

Pastor Rob Westerman and Minister Mike Lewis from Cincinnati, Ohio, surprised 15 strangers at a local grocery store by paying for their items at the checkout.

“We wanted to attract people who haven’t really given church much of thought lately,” Lewis told Today.com. “We thought some sort of effort like that might touch people’s heart.”

In the seven-minute video, the two men manage to capture the emotional reactions of customers touched by their random act of kindness.

As the customers tried to pay for their groceries, Westerman is seen stepping in and laying down cash at the counter. Before walking away he tells the customers, “God is good.”

Lewis was behind the camera, capturing the customer reactions. A few customers were moved to tears. One man was completely stunned and even admitted to getting mugged the night before.

According to Today.com, Lewis said one woman who they helped that day reached out after the video was posted. The woman was going through a tough time with her own faith and just wanted a sign from God.

“Our goal is that people see this video and go out and be nice to people,” Westerman told Today.com. “Let someone over in traffic or smile at someone. Christian or not, it doesn’t matter. Just do good.”

Since it was posted on Facebook, the video had been viewed more than 18 million times and had more than 600,000 shares. In a comment on their own post, Lewis and Westerman said they plan on making more videos like this one in the future.
