Halifax Paper Hearts serving the people Hallmark ignores

Stephanie MacDonald was tired of searching for a greeting card to give to her aunt and her aunt’s new wife on their wedding day.

MacDonald, 28, was unsatisfied with the selection of standard and conventional greeting cards, so she decided to design one for herself.

“I got excited about the idea and started creating,” MacDonald said. “I came up with 25 designs based on my own real life relationships and experiences.”

The cards have an all-inclusive vibe, with designs of same sex relationships and interracial couples, but also having cards that are gender neutral.

MacDonald and boyfriend Lucas Rowe, 27, launched Halifax Paper Hearts last fall and have sold over 5,500 cards. They are now being carried in over 30 stores in both Canada and the U.S.
