After heartwarming prank goes viral, Good Samaritans help homeless man get back on his feet

YouTube prankster Rahat has set up a fundraising page for Eric, a homeless man he gave a "winning" lottery ticket to.

Not every good deed ends when the cameras stop rolling.

Last week, we shared a heartwarming prank: YouTube prankster Rahat gave a homeless man a "winning" lottery ticket, setting him up for a $1,000 jackpot.

The homeless man, identified now as Eric, was moved to tears — and even offered to share his small fortune.

The video went viral, with strangers across North America asking Rahat how they, too, could help out Eric.

So Rahat set up a fundraising page for Eric.

"I want to raise $20,000 to help better and improve Eric’s lifestyle. Eric is an extremely genuine person, and he deserves a lot more in life for his heart-warming personality," Rahat wrote on Fundly.

"All proceeds made from this campaign will be completely given towards helping Eric pick himself back up and get him going towards a respectable living once again."

Rahat met his fundraising goal, then promptly beat it. So far, more than $35,000 has poured in from more than 2,000 supporters.

"He is not aware of the fundraiser," Rahat wrote on Reddit. "We are going to surprise him with it."

In a Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything), Rahat revealed that he didn't just give Eric the cash and leave him on the streets after he was done filming:

"After the video I got him a hotel for two weeks."

The men have kept in touch since.

"I did meet with him yesterday. He told me that he got a haircut, bought ice cream for two girls, and got a pre-paid phone for emergencies," Rahat wrote after being asked what Eric is spending his new-found wealth on.

A recent photo on Instagram shows Rahat posing for a selfie with Eric before grabbing lunch together.

There are still 14 days left of Eric's fundraising campaign before Rahat can surprise his new friend with the generosity of thousands of strangers.
