Heartwarming story of blind dog rescued from trash pile

Last year, a terrified dog was found in a trash pile in southern Los Angeles.

Blind, covered in filth, infested with fleas, and trembling in fear, the canine froze as Eldad and Audrey Hagar of Hope for Paws approached her.

They took her home, cleaned her up, and named her Fiona.

Despite a diagnosis of being 100 per cent blind in both eyes, Fiona was able to have sight restored in one eye, thanks to a lens implant.

Grab and tissue, then watch the amazing transformation on YouTube.

"She wagged! She was so happy," Eldad told PEOPLE. "For the first time, she made the connection between hearing our voices and our smells to seeing our faces. It's just like being blindfolded all your life and all of a sudden, you're 10 years old and they take your blindfold off. It's just an incredible thing."

After the successful surgery, Fiona was adopted by Chris and Michele Gentry, her new family.
