Homeless man returns engagement ring accidentally dropped into his cup

Lost wedding ring reunited with owner

Last Friday, a woman accidentally dropped a diamond and platinum engagement ring into a homeless man's cup in Kansas City, Missouri.

Fortunately for Sarah Darling, the distraught woman, the honest man recognized that the ring was a misplaced valuable. Billy Ray Harris kept the ring until she returned to ask for it back.

"My rings were bothering me, so I put them in my coin purse," Sarah Darling explained to KCTV5, adding that she didn't notice the missing ring until the next day. "I was so incredibly upset because, more than just the value of the ring, it had sentimental value."

When she realized where she'd lost it, she returned to find Harris at the same spot in The Plaza.

Harris told KCTV5 of their second encounter:

"She squatted down like you did like right there and says ‘Do you remember me?' And I was like, ‘I don't know. I see a lot of faces.' She says, ‘I might have gave you something very valuable.' I said, ‘Was it a ring?' And she says, ‘Yeah.' And I said ‘Well, I have it,'" Harris said.

Darling was overwhelmed by his honesty.

"It seemed like a miracle. I thought for sure there was no way I would get it back," Darling said.

"I think in our world we often jump to like the worst conclusion, and it just makes you realize that there are good people out there."

Harris told the news station that his grandfather, a reverend, raised him and that "I do still have some character."

To say thank you, Darling rewarded Harris with all the cash she had in her wallet.

This isn't Harris' first ring-return story. He previously returned a Super Bowl ring to a retired Raiders player.
