Honest Vancouver cab driver praised for returning $10,000 left in his back seat

Vancouver cab driver Sarjinder Singh knew he had to do the right thing.

When a customer noticed that the previous passenger forgot an envelope stuffed with $10,000 in cash in the back seat, Singh immediately returned to the building where he dropped off the envelope's owner and tracked him down.

Singh told the Canadian Press that the man was overjoyed to be reunited with his cash and offered a $1,000 reward, which Singh refused.

"He had to fly the next day. And after I gave him his money he wanted to give me $1,000 cash but I said, 'No, it's my job, you know.' And he said, 'Thank you because I need my money and I have to fly back tomorrow.' I didn’t talk that much to him because I had a customer in the cab and it’s busy. I had to go back, you know," he told News1130.

Singh hopes his story brings positive attention to often-under-appreciated cab drivers.

"Mostly cab drivers are working hard. Mostly they are nice. They are not like douchebags or strangers. Whatever they find, they try to return it back," he said.

Last month, a German cab driver returned $352,000 in cash to an elderly couple. He, too, refused a reward, and insisted that he was just doing what was right.
