The Hubos ‘Come Together’: Robots cover The Beatles

Drexel University's engineers' HUBO humanoid robots are proving themselves pretty "fab."

In a video that Geekosystem calls "one of the best uses of robots you'll see all day," the robots show off what they can do with an impressive cover of The Beatles' "Come Together" using a drum kit and three "hubophones."

"The Hubo has 41 degrees of freedom and can produce extremely human-like motions," according to Drexel's MET lab. "It can thus perform instruments and dance motions in a manner similar to actual humans."

IEEE Spectrum estimates that the robotic musical showcase above was a super-pricey one.

"Considering that each HUBO, an advanced humanoid developed at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), will run you between $300,000 and $400,000, you're looking at a $1.5 million-ish production here, which I'm sure well reflects the amount of work that Drexel University's HUBO music programming team Alyssa Batula, David Grunberg, and Matthew Prockup put into these robots."
