Kinetic artist Joseph Herscher’s awesome morning routine

Kinetic artist Joseph Herscher doesn't have to turn newspaper pages as he reads while sipping his morning coffee. He has an elaborate Rube Goldberg machine set up to turn pages for him.

So much for machines making life easier.

The New York Times breaks down each step of "The Page Turner" here.

Herscher describes a Rube Goldberg machine as "a device that accomplishes a task in the most complicated way possible."

"There's something about making a machine to do something that ends up more complicated than doing the task that's humorous and that people like," he adds.

Watch Herscher talk about his "ridiculous" machines here.

Herscher's other machines are showcased on his official site.
