Large manatees delight beachgoers at Fort Lauderdale Beach

On May 6th, large West Indian manatees made a surprise appearance at Fort Lauderdale Beach, Florida, delighting beachgoers.

One of those beachgoers, Craig Hossack, 38, captured the scene on his iPhone.

Hossack observed that four or five young manatee pups, unaffected by the human commotion around them, were competing to suckle their mother.

"It was not only a miracle, it was a gift," Hossack's wife, Gina, told the Sun-Sentinel. "It made us feel amazing that we were able to witnesses such a thing, who gets to see something like that?"

This isn't the first time we've had our hearts warmed by marine-life encounters.

In March, good Samaritans rescued 30 stranded dolphins on a Brazilian beach. Last Valentine's Day, a family rescued a humpback whale tangled in a fish net. And at a July wedding in Connecticut, a Hartford mariachi band serenaded a "dancing" beluga whale.
