Liberal volunteer in Calgary acted quickly, potentially saved a life

A Liberal volunteer may have saved the life of a senior by calling 911.

On election day yesterday, Kent Hehr’s campaignfor MP of Calgary Centre had volunteers door-knocking to remind people to vote against the Conservative incumbent, Joan Crockatt.

One volunteer was just doing their job when they jumped into action to save a senior, the Huffington Post reports.

The worker rang the doorbell and found a senior who was “clearly in a dire situation,” Hehr’s spokesman, Ben Charland, told the news outlet.

“The volunteer acted quickly and called 911 and an ambulance came,” Charland told Huffington Post.

Hehr later tweeted praising his volunteer team for their great work.

Last night, the Calgary Centre riding was a close call but Hehr managed to snatch it from the Conservatives when the last vote was finally counted. He won by only 906 votes.

It’s the first time since 1968 that Calgary has elected two Liberal MPs, CBC News reports. Darshan Kang won the other seat in Calgary Skyview.

“It was probably the biggest night of my life,” Hehr told the Calgary Herald. “It’s been far too long since we’ve had a non-Conservative to Ottawa and I’m proud to be going with my friend Darshan Kang to represent this city proudly and boldly.”
