Instead of giving a mom a ticket during a traffic stop, a Michigan police officer lent a helping hand.

On Friday, Officer Ben Hall responded to a call about a young child riding in a vehicle without a car seat.

When he pulled over the car, the driver, Alexis DeLorenzo, admitted her wrong but confessed she “hit a really bad financial situation" and couldn’t afford a proper booster seat for her 5-year-old daughter.

Instead of issuing her a ticket, Hall offered to meet DeLorenzo at a nearby Walmart where he could purchase a car seat for her.

"A ticket doesn’t solve the situation. What solves it, is the child being in a booster seat like she should be. Easiest $50 I ever spent," explained Officer Hall.

"For a police officer that could have just given me a ticket, and gotten me in a whole lot of trouble, he out of the kindness of his own heart and out of his own pockets did something for me and my family that I’m never gonna forget," DeLorenzo told Fox 17 News. “He did his job and above and beyond that, just to protect a little girl and to help a family that can’t help themselves right now.”

"I’m really almost at a loss for words because he really didn’t have to do that," she added.

The Emmett Township Department of Public Safety Facebook page featured DeLorenzo’s story. DeLorenzo commented, explaining her situation and, once again, thanking Officer Hall.

"Bad things happen to good people young lady. And from what we were told you are a good mother doing the best that you can under difficult circumstances. That character and quality is why he wanted to help. You stay strong and keep being a good mother to that fantastic girl of yours," the department wrote in response.

DeLorenzo wrote, “As soon as I can afford it I will be paying forward.”

"It changed my life," DeLorenzo told WXMI-TV. “I’m never going to forget him. And neither will my daughter.”
