Mom to the rescue! Brave dog saves her pups from house fire

A dog's heroics this past August in Santa Rosa de Temuco, Chile, are now making headlines here.

A German Shepherd mix named Amanda rescued her 10-day-old puppies from a blazing house fire. As firefighters fought the flames, Amanda carried each of her five puppies from her owners' burning home to the steps of the firetruck outside.

Only one of the puppies, a girl named Amparo, suffered severe burns.

When the dogs were taken to the veterinarian, Amanda proved just as protective of her brood:

"The vet, Felipe Lara, told Soy Chile that Amanda had defended her puppies when they tried to take them away from her to care for them. Eventually she let them check over her pups but she wanted to stay with ailing Amparo and did not want to let her from her sight," the Daily Mail reported.

Amparo died of her wounds. The other four are alive and well, thanks to their brave mother.

One Dog Heirs reader commented, "It goes to show that no matter if your a human mother or an animal mother, you will do whatever it takes to save your babies."
