Only a few hours after the shooting at Parliament Hill yesterday, people started uniting on social media in what the Globe and Mail dubbed “hashtag solidarity.”

Instead of cultivating fear, Twitter users chose to celebrate Ottawa.

Ottawa’s Cameron Rooney was among the first to use the hashtag #MyOttawa, posting photos he felt best represented his city.
