Mystery Calgary man high-fives everyone on the C-train

This is one way to make the morning commute less miserable.

The "high-five guy" has been making people smile on Calgary LRTs over the past month.

The unidentified stranger, described by the Calgary Herald as a "charismatic man who appears to be in his 20s," reassures his fellow passengers that he's mentally stable and only wants to brighten their day before high-fiving or fist-bumping everyone on the train.

Alex Maissan told the Calgary Herald that he saw the high-five guy early Monday morning.

"I was listening to music; tired and kinda grumpy. I could hear someone talking so I took a headphone out. People were looking around clueless," said Maissan. "Then all of a sudden he runs up to the front of the car and announces he’s giving everybody a high-five before 4th Street. And he did it!"

"You feel a little awkward at first, but once you do it you feel pretty great," he added.

Another commuter posted a video of the mystery man in action on the CTrain:

"I've heard of him, but hadn't seen him until today," YouTube user Crackmacs posted. "He announced on the train that he would be walking through and hoping to high five everyone to make them smile. After going through, he told a joke then introduced some people to each other."

Even Calgary Transit wants to meet — or high-five? — its friendliest passenger:

"I don't think there's much point in him coming out," Maissan said of the attempts to identify the high-five guy. "It's a nice gesture."
