Norwegian man enlists his 5-year-old son to help him propose

Toy proposal

For this sweet proposal, all André Nordstrand, 32, needed was a mountaintop, pancakes, an action figure — and his 5-year-old son.

The Norwegian man popped the question to his unsuspecting girlfriend atop a mountain as they ate breakfast. (Actually, he didn’t ask her at all. He let his son, Kristian, do that part.)

“I prepared him well before and promising him a toy he really wanted if he helped me,” Nordstrand wrote on Reddit of his son’s involvement. “Was really no problem, he was super excited anyway, really likes my girlfriend.”

Kristian handed the woman a gift: a 3D-printed Cylon raider inspired by Battlestar Galactica. While the toy wasn’t likely on her wish list — although the couple did first bond over their mutual love for the show — what she found dangling from it certainly made her smile: an engagement ring, designed by Nordstrand.

“There is an engraving inside the ring which says: “so say we both,” as an homage to BSG and that we will do our best to communicate and agree with each other before doing anything that affects the other,” Nordstrand wrote on Reddit.

Kristian didn’t miss a beat, proposing on behalf of his dad the moment the gift was opened.

“Will you marry my dad?” Kristian asked her as he struggled to loosen the ring from the action figure.

“Of course I want to!” she exclaimed, hugging her new fiancé while the boy continued to wrestle the ring off the toy. Fortunately, the ring was tied onto the raider with a string, making a down-the-mountain mishap less inevitable.

Eventually the child was able to hand her the ring.

“I really wanted him to be a part of it, as it is an important event for us all. I’m happy it turned out so great,” Nordstrand wrote.

“Outside of the cuteness of the proposal, the last half of the video is awesome to me because it really captures the moment from the kid’s perspective,” wrote Reddit user mrsammercer. “You and her are celebrating in the background and the video continues from his POV, where he’s just trying to get this f***ing ring off his starfighter. Haha, really awesome video, man.”
