In 2011, Jack Jablonski was checked into the boards head-first during a high school hockey game. The incident left him paralyzed from the chest down.

During a "Hockey Night in Minnesota" radio interview last month, Jack, now a high school senior at Benilde-St. Margaret’s School in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, asked ESPN SportsNation co-host Michelle Beadle to go to prom with him.

“I’d formally like to invite you to my prom,” Jablonski asked Beadle a few minutes into the interview.

She said yes.

"Seriously, I would love it," he told him, joking, "Can I wear an '80s dress to the prom?"

Beadle elaborated on her decision to say yes in an email to Larry Brown Sports.

"I know that he’s a badass and someone I look up to immensely," Beadle wrote. "I was shocked when he asked today. And I adore him for doing it live on the radio. I’m honoured to squeeze my 38-year-old behind into a formal gown for a great night!"

Jablonski's school made an exception to allow a 38-year-old date to attend the event.

"I'm happy that the school actually allowed me because I know they're very ... they’ve got some really good rules here. And, so it'll be fun. I get to go on a school bus. Hello, it’s going to make me young again,” Beadle told CBS Minnesota.

Beadle posted pictures of their ride to prom on Twitter on Saturday.

"This is ending high school with a hurrah," Jablonski said. "I can't thank Michelle enough for coming tonight."

Jablonski and his "A-list date" were welcomed to prom with a round of applause.

"Jack is a just a cool human being," Beadle told KARE-11. "To go through what he's gone through and to keep smiling, it's just a no-brainer that I would want to hang out."
