Parents of baby hand out candy and earplugs before long flight

Considerate parents provide goody bags for plane passengers

Sometimes a little thoughtfulness (and candy) goes a long way.

No matter how much we love babies – and we really do! as a general rule, we don’t want to sit next to one on a long flight.

We wouldn’t mind sitting next to little Madeline, however.

One-year-old Madeline’s parents handed out goody bags to everyone sitting around them. Each bag was packed with candy and all-important ear plugs.

Hi Stranger!” the note inside each bag read.

“My name is Madeline. I will be 1 on December 17th and this is my first flight. I’ll try to be on my best behavior, but I’d like to apologize in advance if I lose my cool, get scared or my ears hurt. My mom and dad packed you this goodies bag with a few treats. There are also earplugs in case my first public serenade isn’t as enjoyable to you as it is my mom and dad. Have a great flight!”

How could you not love this considerate first-time traveller?

Danaus Chang was on that Miami-bound flight.

"It was like a scene straight out of ‘The Grinch Who Stole Christmas,’" Chang wrote in an email to TODAY.com. “I was literally sitting there smiling. I looked around and saw at least eight other smiling faces as well.”

Before exiting the plane, Chang thanked Madeline’s parents for the thoughtful gesture. He also told that a photo he took of his goody bag was already getting a lot of attention on Reddit.

"They seemed pleasantly surprised and quickly shifted attention to their baby and we said goodbye," he wrote.

"By the way, Madeline was adorable."

It appears Madeline’s parents were inspired by Christina Diaz and Michael Rubinstein, who, in 2012, handed out goody bags to everyone on their 14-week-old twin boys’ first flight and offered ear plugs to anyone who wanted them.

The bags included this note:

“Hello! We’re twin baby boys on our first flight and we’re only 14 weeks old! We’ll try to be on our best behaviour, but we’d like to apologize in advance just in case we lose our cool, get scared or our ears hurt. Our mom and dad (AKA our portable milk machine and our diaper changer) have ear plugs available if you need them. We are all sitting in 20E and 20F if you want to come by and get a pair. We hope you have a great flight!”
