A brother and sister out of California are ready for a new start after being rescued from underneath a Los Angeles freeway.

Pepsi and Cola are a pair of Maltese dogs who had been living together, scraping by to survive, until the pair were rescued by Hope for Paws volunteers Eldad Hagar and Vanessa Enriquez in what looks to be a pretty daring operation.

“After surviving on their own for so long, the two pooches had grown wary of people,” Hagar’s organization Hope for Paws told HuffPost.

In the video you can hear bustling traffic overhead as the rescuers go underground to find the pair of pooches.

“There is a beautiful moment in the video where Pepsi uses his body to cover Cola and protect her from potential harm,” said Hope for Paws. “The love and loyalty these two dogs have for each other is awe-inspiring.”

The video shows how much patience both the handlers and dogs required in order for this to be a successful rescue. You can see how confused both dogs are, but they slowly warm up to Hagar and Enriquez.

The pair were taken to the vet and are now waiting for a family to adopt them both.
