Shares breakfast with homeless man

A photo of a police officer sharing a meal with a homeless man has gone a long way toward restoring a little faith in humanity.

TiAnna Greene was taken by surprise when she witnessed this unexpected act of kindness: a police officer sitting on the curb with a homeless man, sharing the breakfast that she had just bought and engaging in conversation.

Greene quickly took to her Facebook page, calling it an “absolutely wonderful act of kindness that seemed to come naturally” for the police officer.

“Although I was only blessed to witness less than two minutes of her kindness that definitely came from the heart, it truly made my morning!” Greene wrote.

Greene posted the photo to Facebook in hopes of sharing the selfless act with all of her friends and family, but it didn’t stop there. After the Ocala Police Department shared the photo, thousands of people from around the globe also got a glimpse of the kindness, reports the Ocala Post.

And thanks to some help from the same police department, the officer in question is none other than Sgt. Erica Hay.

Hay was headed to Dunkin’ Donuts when she noticed the man sitting alone, so she decided to buy him a little something and sit down with him as they ate.

Hay told TODAY.com that “isolation is the worst part about being someone who is homeless. They’re isolated from everyone, and I think any type of interaction is a positive thing.”

“He turned out to be a very nice man who just had a sad story,” she told the Ocala Post. “He is a person.”

Greene, who was with her seven-year-old daughter at the time, told TODAY.com that she turned to the little girl and said, “See. That is truly a sign of compassion.”

“It helped my daughter understand that not all police officers are bad, and that there are good people in all positions. It just depends on who’s carrying it.”
