A beloved police dog who had been fighting bone cancer received a touching goodbye that was captured on video moments before he was put down.

Argo, a Czech German Shepherd, was known to track down thousands of pounds of drugs off the streets that led to the capture of dangerous felons. The pup served as a narcotics detection dog with the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office in Texas since 2009, according to their Facebook post.

Sadly after years of dedicated service, Argo was diagnosed with bone cancer.

The Texas force honoured the pup with a traditional last radio call, which is given to those who pass in the line of duty. The emotional farewell was captured on video by friends and family, which was then posted on Facebook by the Sheriff’s Office.

According to the video’s description, the call was done during a small and private ceremony capturing Argo’s last moments before he was later put down as the cancer spread all over his body.

The Sheriff’s Office said Argo “refused to let it slow him down” until his pain became evident to his partner.

“Sheriff’s Office to K-9 Argo. Sheriff’s Office to K-9 Argo,” the dispatcher can be heard saying in the video, as Argo is seen lying down surrounded by family and friends. “Sheriff’s Office to K-9 Argo. End of watch for K-9 Argo on Oct. 10, 2015. Rest in peace K-9 Argo.”

The Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office is now planning to honour Argo at the First Annual South Texas K9 competition in November.

The Texas police department said the Czech German Shepherd was “a perfect example of his breed” and credit him for being a “relentless police tracking dog.”
