Reddit to the rescue! Online community helps find woman’s missing dog

On Sunday, Houston-based Reddit user "p1percub" posted a photo of her missing dog, a rescued pit bull-lab mix named Jack, along with a request for help:

"Please help my find my lost dog. He was hit by a truck (which ran) in the Med Center this morning. I've been looking for him nonstop. My cell # is on his collar, but if you see him PLEASE help me bring him home," she wrote.

Almost immediately, Redditors offered suggestions:

"Contact the Facebook page for Heights Lost and Found," one user wrote.

"When you put up your 'Lost Dog' posters, make sure you hit up all of the local vet clinics and leave one with them. People often go to vet clinics to check if a stray dog has a microchip and will see your ad. A lot of clinics also have Facebook pages where you can post this same description with pictures," wrote another.

Others volunteered to look for Jack.

One Redditor, "MycroStanza," put p1percub in touch with someone who lives in the area "who maintains a large email list of people involved in animal rescue."

One of the women on the list drove to the area where Jack first ran away and spotted him. Without letting Jack out of her sight, she called p1percub.

P1percub ran to where the woman had spotted Jack — she even hopped in the back of a good Samaritan's truck at one point — and was reunited with her dog.

"We quickly found the woman with eyes on the dog and Jack seemed pretty freaked out, but came right over to me. OMG. There just aren't words. I thanked them both and rushed Jack home, called his vet who said he could see him with just enough time to spare that I could give Jack some (vet approved) cool water and a chance to chill out a bit, and me enough time to post that he was found," she updated Redditors, posting a photo of the sweet reunion.

"The vet says he's totally fine, just some scrapes and bruises. He gave me some pain meds for Jack, and I had Jack chipped and filled out the paperwork for his chip while we were there. I feel like I owe the world (and reddit) a whole sh*t load of karma right now. :)"

When p1percub returned from the vet, she updated the story again:

"We just got back from the vet and he is a bit scraped up but otherwise fine! Some meds for pain (scrapes and bruises), but that's it. The doc was as blown away as me, and I SAW him get hit by that truck. I feel like I won the dog lottery when I found this guy, and today reddit rescued my rescue."
