A Massachusetts middle school surprised its beloved principal, who was retiring after 36 years on the job, with a farewell gesture he'll never forget.

On June 7, staff and students at Hingham Middle School surprised Roger Boddie with a huge choreographed flash mob.

“We wanted to make it special for him because of how special he is to us, show him how much we will miss him,” Maggie Raso, a Grade 7 student, told CBS Boston.

Boddie was led to the school's roof — he assumed he was about to be interviewed for a video about school construction — where he watched the entire student body dance to Journey's "Don't Stop Believin'."

"Thank you for believing in us," their signs read.

Everything was caught on camera.

"When people ask what I’m going to miss, I think I know what it is," an emotional Boddie said while watching his students.

"I love when educators are appreciated and feel it," one YouTube user commented. "Well done, Hingham."
