Snowboarder survives avalanche thanks to emergency airbag

Pro snowboarder Meesh Hytner is lucky to be alive.

Hytner was snowboarding in an informal backcountry competition near Montezuma, Colorado on January 25th, when she found herself caught up in a class-3 avalanche.

Fortunately, she was wearing a Backcountry Access Float 30, an emergency airbag that let her "'float' on her back while the surface beneath her crumbles and swept her down the mountain," Gizmodo reports.

She rode down the mountain, feet-first, to safety, completely avoiding injury.

"I felt like I was riding a mattress down the stairs," Hytner recalled.

"Thank you" Hytner told Backcountry Access, "this thing saved my life. It's proof that this product works."
