Stranger tips waitress $1,000 so she can visit Italy

Thousand-dollar tip

Last weekend, a kind stranger tipped his waitress with enough money to pay for her dream trip to Italy.

The waitress's daughter, Tumblr poster Casual Cynic, shared the story online, complete with a photo of the bill.

"So my mom and I have been working the same waitress job for 5-6 years now. She had been waitressing years before, but this is recently. Anyway, about … 15 minutes ago this guy she waited on left and told her to take care. Just that. Prior to this she had talked to him about Italy. Her people are from Florence, this and that, and she said she's never been. She's got 8 years of art education and she's working a waitress job. It's pretty … sad and disappointing, I guess. Her and my father divorced 6 years ago and she hasn't had a real job ever. Just been stuck in a small town she's not from," Casual Cynic wrote.

"This man who we have never seen before tipped her 1,000 dollars for a trip to Italy. Walked out, not another word."

As of Wednesday morning, the Tumblr post had more than 200,000 notes, most of which, Jezebel pointed out, "say something like, "THERE ARE STILL NICE PEOPLE IN THE WORLD."

Note: If you noticed the tipper's $0.42 error, don't worry. "We have it covered," Casual Cynic wrote.

Last year, a family made good on a dying man's last wish: to tip a waitress $500.

"We think he just wanted to provide a random act of kindness and generosity for someone he thought was under appreciated; the kind of thing that would make a lasting impact they would never forget," Aaron Collin's brother wrote in a video capturing the overwhelming gesture of kindess.

The generous move inspired others to do the same.
