Strangers help drive stranded family to NYC funeral

After their 9 p.m. Detroit-to-New York flight was cancelled, a mother and her two children approached three strangers with a desperate request: Would they help her drive to New York?

The woman needed to be in the Big Apple by 9:00 a.m. the next morning for her father's funeral. She had a Honda Odyssey, but would need help driving through the night.

Since Redditor thisguyyy and the two other strangers were also heading to New York — they had been booked for the same flight as the funeral-bound family — they said yes.

"We drove in the mother's Honda Odyssey, which was a 7-seater. She turned the back seat into a makeshift bed for her kids, who slept the whole time. The rest of us were in the two middle bucket seats and the two front seats. The mom took the first shift of driving, then the three of us let her sleep the rest of the way," he wrote.

The family made it to their Chinatown destination on time.

He posted a photo of the mother (far left), her children (far right), and the strangers who got them to New York on imgur.

When the story went viral on Reddit, thisguyyy remained humble:

"I was lucky to be in the right place at the right time to help out."

Kids, sometimes it's okay to talk to strangers.
