‘Superman’ to the rescue! Man in superhero hoodie saves baby from burning building

Tori Phillips helped rescue a baby from a burning building

Shortly after 3 a.m. on Saturday, a two-storey, four-alarm fire broke out at a Dallas apartment complex after a man fell asleep with candles burning.

Seventy-two firefighters responded to the scene.

A total of 36 units were destroyed in the blaze, leaving 52 people without homes.

The story could have been a more tragic one, had Superman not shown up.

Tori Phillips, who lost his apartment in the fire, came to one young family's rescue — by catching their baby.

Phillips, who was dressed in a Superman hoodie, saw a couple trying to escape from their second-storey patio.

"I'd seen they needed help and they were scared to come down with their baby and I was like, 'I'm right here, I'll catch 'em.' So that's what I did and then another dude helped get his wife down and then he jumped down and got them to safety," Phillips told NBC 5.

Other residents also rallied to save their neighbours, breaking down a fence to help people stuck in the building escape.

Remarkably, no one sustained any significant injuries in the fire.

It's the latest in a number of cases of quick-thinking strangers stepping up to save the day.

And just last month, a California couple in the midst of moving caught a falling toddler with a mattress.
