Talk about a high note! 19-year-old sets whistling world record

Walker Harnden, a student at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, just whistled his way into the record books.

The 19-year-old sophomore whistled the highest note in history.

According to Guinness World Records, "The highest note whistled is a B7 (3951 Hz), which was achieved by Walker Harnden (USA) at the Hoad Recital Hall, University of North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston Salem, North Carolina, USA, on 7 November 2013. A B7 is the 2nd to top note on a piano keyboard.”

The previous record for highest note was by Canadian Jennifer Davies, who hit the second E above middle C. Davies still holds the record for lowest note ever whistled, a record Harnden has no intentions of chasing.

"She [Davies] has me beat there by a whole step, and I don’t want to take away all of her glory," he told the News & Observer.

UNC School of the Arts professor Robin Driscoll was blown away by Harnden's whistling.

"It was pretty impressive," Driscoll said. "He kept going higher and higher, an octave higher, and I was like, 'Oh, my God.'"

"I think his record will be secure for a while," he said with a laugh.

Music student Harnden, who admits he whistles for hours a day, aspires to one day play the oboe in a symphony orchestra.
