Thanks to a innocent display of public affection, this couple truly has an electrifying love story to tell.

Last week, Lexie Varga and Dylan Corliss were walking down a street in Claremont, California, on their way to get a burger when the two were reportedly struck by lightning.

“One second we were (in) one place talking and then suddenly we were on the ground looking at each other just screaming,” Corliss told ABC News.

According to doctor, the small romantic gesture of holding hands just may have saved the lovebirds from serious injury and potential death.

“The chance of getting hit by lightning is very uncommon – perhaps one in a million,” Stefan Reynoso told Fox 12 Oregon. “They were lucky they were holding hands. It helped diffuse that electric current.”

The lightning bolt reportedly hit Corliss in the back of the head, travelling though his body and into Varga’s before exiting her body through her foot.

The two were quickly knocked down to the ground, and both had quickly assumed there had been an earthquake. But a nearby witness told the teens they had been struck by lightning.

“It felt kind of like I was getting hit over the head with metal or something,” Corliss told CBS Los Angeles.

Varga’s mom knew the two had gone out for a walk when she heard the thunder.

“I immediately texted Lexie and I think I said something like you two are back home, aren’t you?” her mother told Fox 12 Oregon.

Varga would return the message, breaking the news that she and Corliss had been struck by lightning.

Reynoso said Corliss and Varga are doing just fine, cracking jokes about their electric love with every pun imaginable.

I’ve heard that we have an electric relationship,” Corliss told ABC News. “I also heard that sparks flew, and, yeah, that it’s really shocking.”
