U.S. Marine Staff Sergeant Jeremy Cooney returns home, sees son walk for the first time

Staff Sergeant Jeremy Cooney received a tear-jerking welcome when he returned from serving with the United States Marines in Afghanistan.

The North Carolina Marine was greeted at Camp Lejeune by his 6-year-old son, Michael, walking toward him. Michael, who has cerebral palsy, had not been able to walk when Cooney was deployed.

Doctors had told the Cooney family that Michael would never walk.

"When daddy was away, he learned to walk," Cooney's wife, Melissa, told WelcomeHomeBlog.com. "For his homecoming, we set it up for Michael to walk to his daddy for the first time ever! We kept the fact that he could walk a secret the whole time his dad was gone!"
