Vancouver dad heading to Disneyland pulls driver out of burning truck

Vancouver dad Bob Michels was on a California freeway on his way to Disneyland with his family when the semi-truck in front of him veered off the road, rolled down an embankment and burst into flames in a parking lot below.

Fast-acting Michels immediately pulled over, got out of his vehicle, jumped a guardrail and pulled the female truck driver out of her flaming vehicle.

"I knew I had to stop and do something," Michels said.

KGW News reported that the truck driver, who was rushed to the hospital with "non-life-threatening injuries," is in good condition.

According to CBS2, several cars in the parking lot were destroyed, but no other injuries were reported.

"I saw him leaning in the driver's side and trying to get her to come out," Michels' wife, Aimee, said. "And as he was doing that, I could see the flames starting to come up in the back of the cab."

Michels' heroic deed likely saved the driver's life.

"That's what Bobby does," Aimee said. "That's why we all love him so much."

When the family arrived at Disneyland later that day, Bob Michels was named "honourary citizen" of the day.
