It may not be a storybook romance, but at least it ends with happily ever after.

Four years ago, through the ashes of a horrible attempted murder case where her ex-boyfriend stabbed her 32 times, Melissa Dohme met Cameron Hill.

Police and ambulance arrived to the scene “at once,” and among the first responders was Hill, reports Fox 13.

“I think that’s fate,” Dohme said. “That little feeling… it’s fate.”

Ten months later the two met again when Dohme decided it was time to tell her story and Hill was in the crowd. Afterward, he invited her back to the fire station to have dinner with the crew who saved her.

“The more I learned about Cameron, the more realized we had so much in common,” said Dohme.

And from then on, the two became inseparable.

Even though Hill describes some of the moments in the wake of her attack as “stressful,” Dohme says that he was “by [her] side through it all.”

And after only a few months of dating, Hill knew he found the one. With the watchful eyes of a stadium full of people at a Tampa Bay Rays game, he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him.

For the two, it’s crazy how such a horrifying event could come full circle.

“When I look back on [the night of the attack], I can’t think of it as all bad anymore because I met Cameron,” Dohme told the Tampa Bay Times in an interview three years ago. “He’s the one I’ve been waiting for. My fairytale.”

The two plan on tying the knot March 5th next year.
