Video: Rescuers save family dog from Lake Erie’s frozen grasp

A dog that fell through the ice on Lake Erie was saved by rescue workers.

A heroic rescue saved the life of a beloved family dog on Thursday after it fell into the icy waters of Lake Erie.

The hunting dog, named Bart, was out for a walk with his best friend Jim Swayze when he wandered off, according to the local media outlet ClickOnDetroit.com.

The pup's back paws fell through the ice but he was able to stay above water using his front paws.

Swayze immediately called 911 and his cousin, Lance Eicher.

The report says Eicher risked the ice to reach Bart. The cousin also fell into the shallow water, but he stayed with the dog to keep him warm while rescue workers arrived.

They moved Bart into a boat and brought him safely to shore. One rescuer broke through the ice while trying to guide the boat. Thankfully, he was able to hang on safely and regain his footing.

It was a chilly adventure for Bart and his brave rescuers. Local officials said the dog didn't seem seriously hurt.
