Woman hails her cat ‘my son’s little hero’ for taking a bullet

Cat in the US takes bullet to the head, saves toddler

A mother in Pennsylvania is calling her cat a hero for saving her son’s life.

Last Thursday, a stray bullet went through a front window in Angelica Sipe’s home in York, Pennsylvania.

“The first thing I did was check on my son and he was sound asleep,” Sipe told FOX 43. “Then I saw my cat on the floor and that’s when I realized my cat was shot.”

Sipe said her ginger cat Opie ‘took a bullet’ for her three-year-old son, Daemire.

Opie was laying on the couch when the bullet came through the window. He had blood on his head where the bullet entered before leaving through the bottom of his neck, it then re-entered into his shoulder and came out from his ribs, according to FOX 43.

The bullet then ricocheted across the room and lodged itself in a pillow, “just inches” away from where her son was sleeping.

“It could have been my son,” Sipe told KTLA 5.

Amazingly, Opie survived the incident. Sipe had an option of putting him down due to his injuries but she chose to save him.

“He’s my son’s little hero, so I need to keep him around,” she told FOX 43.

Opie’s vet bills nearly reached $1,000 and he is now covered with bandages, drainage tubes and stitches. He’s expected to be just fine, despite some muscle damage.

According to York City Police, multiple castings were recovered from the area and an investigation is ongoing. Police say no one else has come forward with injuries.
