Instead of using violence, a young boy stood up against a bully by writing a heartwarming letter offering friendship.

Nicolas Neesley is a third grade student at Jennings Elementary School in Quincy, Michigan. While on the playground one day, Neesley noticed his friend getting pushed around by a fifth grade student, his mom told ABC News.

Instead of just standing by, the third grader got involved and tried to stop the fighting. As a result, he got spit on and got called names by the bully.

Rather than fighting back with anger, the eight-year-old wrote a letter addressed to the school with a message to all bullies.

“You don’t have to be a bully. If you don’t have any friends just make a friend it’s very simple. But you already have a friend, us,” the letter said.

After telling his mother about the incident they decided to wait a week before doing anything, because his mother was afraid of how the bully would react, according to the Daily Reporter.

On Oct. 5 during anti-bullying day at school, Neelsey couldn’t wait any longer and decided to write his letter.

“I think we need to put a stop to bullying, because it happens to like five kids every week,” Neesley told the Daily Reporter. “Every time I see someone get bullied, I break it up.”

His letter was later read on the intercom at school by the principal, who told ABC News that he was touched by the letter, which showed the importance of anti-bullying.

As for the bully, Neelsey’s mom told the Daily Reporter that she’s unsure whether they know the letter was directed at him.

Regardless, Neelsey plans to walk away from the bullies if there’s ever a reaction from his letter and will even say a little prayer for his bully.
