Young cancer survivor, Joey Feminella, adopted by football team as ‘good luck charm’

Young cancer survivor, Joey Feminella, adopted by football team as ‘good luck charm.

When Joey Feminella was 5 years old, he was diagnosed with brain cancer.

Now 14, Joey is an invaluable part of the Stony Brook University football team. He was "adopted" by the Seawolves though Friends of Jaclyn, a nonprofit that aims to improve the quality of life for children with paediatric brain tumours — and has been their elected co-captain for the past three years.

The young "good luck charm" doesn't play on the team, but he attends practices, rushes the field before kickoff, and travels with the team. Since welcoming the cancer survivor, the Seawolves have won four straight league championships.
