Remember when we all cried with happiness when Joey finally chose to be with Pacey  on the series finale of "Dawson's Creek"? Because somehow, even if their real-life courtship didn't last much past Season 2, we all knew that the connection between Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson was real. It was real, we tell you. And if Joey and Pacey ended up together, then maybe there was hope for Katie and Josh, too.

Well, we all know that didn't happen. Happily, though, it seems the two still have a connection today, more than 14 years after they dated and nine years after "Dawson's Creek" went off the air. In an interview on the CBC talk show "George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight," Jackson revealed that Holmes called him shortly after her divorce with ex-husband Tom Cruise was announced.

"It was like any old friend … It was like, 'Oh, hi how are ya? What's going on?' 'I had a kid' 'Yeah, that's crazy, I heard!'," Jackson told host George Stroumboulopoulos.

Of course, Jackson probably knew about Suri Cruise, the six-year-old so famous that she's worrying the other parents at her private school. And Holmes' five-year marriage to Cruise has been one of the most highly publicized in recent history. There's no doubt that Jackson was most likely keeping up with the news of his ex's family drama.

But despite everything that has happened in the years since "Dawson's Creek," Jackson said he and Holmes got along just like old times.

"It was nice. It was very nice, actually," he said.

In comparison to Holmes, Jackson has had a very quiet and calm romantic life. The same year that Holmes married Cruise, Jackson began dating "Inglourious Basterds" actress Diane Kruger. Though neither has expressed no desire to get married any time soon, they're one of Hollywood's most stable pairings.

Who would have thought? Ultimately, it was Capeside's bad boy Pacey who settled down, while the brainy Joey got involved in a dramatic, headline-grabbing marriage!
