Neve Campbell Reveals the Unusual Name She Gave Her Son: Caspian!
Growing up, Neve Campbell had a name that was different than most of kids at the playground, and when she became a first-time mother this year, she wanted her son’s name to be unusual as well.
While appearing on “The Talk” this week, the 39-year-old actress revealed how she and her beau, J.J. Feild, decided on the name Caspian for their son, who was born in August. “We looked through a lot of books,” said the “An Amish Murder” actress. “I liked the idea of a unique name. I like having a unique name – it’s [my mom's] maiden name, Neve, and not a lot of people have it. It’s nice having something special and different and so I wanted something like that for our son.”

Going into the delivery room, the “Party of Five” alum and Feild had narrowed down their options to just five names and decided they would wait to meet their son before they made anything official. When they first set eyes on their bundle of joy, the decision was made for them. “When we were in the hospital when he was born, we realized we could only remember one [of the names from the list] and that was Caspian,” said Campbell.
Not only is Caspian the name of a body of water – the Caspian Sea is the largest salt-water lake on Earth and well known for its caviar – but it also has literary ties. In C.S. Lewis’ fantasy book series “Chronicles of Narnia,” Prince Caspian is one of the pivotal characters, who later became king. While this is the first Caspian we’ve seen in the celebrity baby name circle, there have been quite a few Caspers through the years. Jason Lee has a daughter Casper and Claudia Schiffer’s son is named Caspar. Jennifer Lopez is a fan of the name – her boyfriend is Casper Smart – and so is actor Casper Van Dien, who is one of seven Caspers in his family.

Beyond names, Campbell also chatted with “The Talk” co-hosts about spending her first holiday season as a new mother. “Christmas with kids is so much more fun than on your own,” Campbell gushed. She can’t wait to pass down her own family traditions to her tot – and she’s already creating some of her own, including dressing her baby in silly holiday outfits. “I went on Amazon and bought one of those little Santa outfits for him for Christmas,” she laughed, adding, “I’m sure he’ll be mortified when he’s older.”
Maybe he will be mortified, but he’ll probably know he was loved as well.
