Oops! Rachel McAdams and Noomi Rapace wear nearly-identical dresses to ‘Sherlock Holmes 2′ premiere

High school girls have this panicky fear leading up to prom that someone will show up wearing their same over-priced taffeta dress. Powwows are held, phone calls are made, and e-mails are sent -- all to ensure that prom night isn't ruined by such a fashion faux pas.

Canadian actress Rachel McAdams would have benefited from such rigorous outfit planning for the "Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows" premiere, as the actress wore a frock a little too similar to co-star Noomi Rapace's dress.

McAdams looked stunning Tuesday at the premiere in Los Angeles. The silver, long-sleeved Marchesa gown had an elegant train, high neck, and exposed back. McAdams rocked the red carpet until she had to pose with Rapace, whose look-alike gown made for some awkward snapshots.

Rapace, who starred in the original Swedish adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," showed up in a jacquard-print Valentino gown. Unlike McAdams's ensemble, the halter neck exposed Rapace's arms. However, the colour, the print, the length, and the fit of both gowns were very similar. Awkward!

The accidental fashion faux pas may have made for a few uncomfortable photos, but just like those girls with the matching dresses at prom, we're sure McAdams and Rapace had a fun night anyway.
