Russell Peters on Monica Diaz divorce: ‘There were no hard feelings’

Even though he's going through a divorce, Canadian comic Russell Peters is still smiling.

The Brampton native, who announced in March that he was splitting from wife of two years, Monica Diaz, has revealed in a new interview that the couple has "no hard feelings."

"It was actually a decent breakup," Peters told the Canadian Press while promoting his Notorious World Tour, which lands in Toronto on Saturday.

The 41-year-old Gemini winner had a shotgun wedding in (where else?) Las Vegas in August 2010, and he and Diaz welcomed a baby daughter, Crystianna, four months later.

"Did I get married because she was knocked up? I would say that expedited it," he told CP two months later.

In retrospect, Peters thinks that wasn't such a good idea.

"We just realized we rushed in and didn't know each other and when we got to know each other we were kind of like, 'Hmm, I don't think this is going to work out for the rest of our lives,'" he said, adding, "I didn't want to wait until my daughter was older and got used to seeing us together and really mess with her head."

The comedian addresses his divorce in his new standup show, which three months ago became the fastest-selling concert in Dubai history, with two shows selling out in only eight minutes.
