Watch Ryan Gosling on ‘Canada AM’ talk about ‘The Mickey Mouse Club’ in the early ’90s

No wonder Ryan Gosling still has a soft spot for Disney.

The 31-year-old "Drive" star, who is known for wooing his ladies with Disneyland dates, is back in the news this week after a vintage "Canada AM" video surfaced online. In the clip from the early '90s, a young Gosling is interviewed about landing a role on the Disney Channel's "Mickey Mouse Club."

Gosling joined "MMC" in 1993 and stayed for two years, during which time he famously roomed with fellow Mouseketeer Justin Timberlake.

"Canada AM" released the interview of Gosling before the Ontario native headed off to Florida to star in the career-launching series. Nearly two decades before becoming Hollywood's go-to ladies' man and the most influential dude in Canada (according to Ask Men, anyway), Gosling sat in an Ottawa studio in a jean shirt and tie.

Asked how he reacted when he had heard he would be one of seven new Mouseketeers, the young actor could barely contain his excitement.

"I hit the roof, it was so fun," Gosling said. "My mother and I, we were just jumping around, and my sister. It was amazing."

Gosling went through three days of auditions and rehearsals, in which he had to learn two songs and a script, but he didn't seem to hold the grueling process against Disney.

"The people at Disney are so incredibly amazing -- they are so nice," he said. "They treated us like we were kings and queens."

At one point, the young star expressed surprise that his Canadian friends didn't give him grief over his new career.

"They're really excited; they call me 'mouse boy' and things," Gosling said. "I was surprised, I thought I'd get a lot of [ribbing]."

Perhaps the most charming point in the interview is when young Gosling, who today rubs shoulders with the likes of George Clooney and Sean Penn, revealed the celebs he would like to meet.

"If I could, I want to meet Michael Jordan and Michael Jackson. That would be really cool," Gosling said.
