Johnny Depp’s new life without Vanessa Paradis

This week, Johnny Depp confirmed what had long been rumored: His 14-year romance with Vanessa Paradis, with whom he has two children, is over. While this may come as a surprise to some, they had been living separate lives for a while with the 49-year-old Hollywood icon attending events solo, spending time on his other passion, music, and catching up with pals like Marilyn Manson.

During an appearance on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" in May, Depp revealed he had been hanging out a lot with his "very good friend" Manson, who he met when the shock rocker was an extra on "21 Jump Street." Depp noted that Manson even performed at his son Jack's 10th birthday party! According to People magazine, Depp has been spending late nights at the singer's Hollywood-area home. Manson, who was rumored to be dating Lana Del Rey earlier this year, is also single.

Not surprisingly, before he was an actor, Depp was in a band called The Kids, which explains why he seems to be exploring his musical roots a lot more lately. A guitar-strumming Depp appeared in Paul McCartney's video for "My Valentine," which came out in April. The same month, he was a surprise guest at Manson's concert in Los Angeles. The two men also recorded a cover of the Carly Simon song "You're So Vain" for Manson's Born Villain album. And when Depp was given the Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards ceremony in June, instead of giving a typical acceptance speech he performed two songs with The Black Keys.

When he's not rocking out with Manson, Depp has also been busy working. His latest Tim Burton collaboration, "Dark Shadows," came out in May, so he traveled the globe promoting that. Now his focus is on "The Lone Ranger." In the Disney flick, Depp plays Tonto and he'll be filming in locations from Colorado to New Mexico all summer, wrapping in August. When he's not filming on set, he flies back to Los Angeles to be with his children.

And because Depp has often been dubbed one of the sexiest stars in Hollywood, there are no shortage of new romance rumors. One that just won't go away is that he's dating his "The Rum Diaries" co-star Amber Heard. Various reports stated she traveled with him to promote "Dark Shadows" and was seen exiting a private plane with him in Las Vegas. Another story stated that Depp bought Heard, 26, a horse "so they can ride together." However, the openly bisexual actress is reportedly in a long-term relationship with artist Tasya van Ree. Tabloids have also linked Depp to his "Dark Shadows" co-star Eva Green and his longtime publicist Robin Baum. Again, neither report has been substantiated.

As for Paradis, 39, the French actress and singer attended the Cabourg Festival of Romantic Cinema in Paris on June 14. People reported that the "glum-looking" Paradis appeared "tired" and "didn't look well or happy."

On June 19, Depp confirmed the breakup in a statement to "Entertainment Tonight": "Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis have amicably separated. Please respect their privacy and, more importantly, the privacy of their children." The news came six months after People magazine did a cover story on the duo, declaring that their love had "gone wrong," they were leading "separate lives," and Depp had been "living single." It came one month after the actor himself denied a split. "The rumors are not true," he said. "They are absolutely not true. No matter what I say about this, people believe the opposite. I can't say enough about it not being over."

While no one knows what exactly went on behind closed doors, Depp and Paradis have been leading separate lives publicly for some time. The last time they were photographed together on the red carpet was in May 2010. The duo, who had been introduced to each other at a mutual friend's house in France in 1993, attended the Cannes International Film Festival together. Arm in arm, they smiled while posing for photographers. She looked radiant in a halter style dress with sexy side slits; he had on a suit and one of his trademark hats. While they were spotted together again after that — their whole family, including daughter Lily-Rose, 13, and son Jack, 10, attended a Dolphins football game in Miami that fall, and Depp accompanied Paradis to a concert in New York City in February 2011 — Depp attended the Golden Globes without Paradis in January, she flew solo at the premiere of "Café de Flore," and they haven't been seen together since.
