Late Wednesday night, Rob Ford decided he'd had enough.
In light of new reports involving a video of him allegedly smoking crack and audio of him having a sexist, expletive-laden discussion at an Etobicoke bar, the Toronto mayor announced through his lawyer that it was time to face his demons and enter rehab.
Ford will step away from the mayor's chair and the raging campaign for his seat for at least 30 days. Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly will assume any remaining duties Ford had after getting most of his powers stripped after the first crack scandal broke last year.
For many Torontonians, it's a relief that Ford has finally acknowledged that he has a substance-abuse problem and he is getting help. For others, the ongoing drama has gone on too long, and it's long past time for Ford to step down as mayor and deal with his issues privately.
