I (heart) boobies: Too lewd for school?

Pennsylvania's epic boobies battle could be headed for the U.S. Supreme Court.

The Easton Area School District board voted 7-1 Tuesday night to appeal a decision that it does not have the right to ban "I (heart) boobies" bracelets from its schools.

Back in August, the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a decision that the district couldn't prove the bracelets were disruptive.

"The Third Circuit Court has compromised administrators' abilities to intervene in what is and what is not appropriate in school," Easton Superintendent John Reinhart said.

The case began back in 2010 when two girls, aged 12 and 13, challenged the school's ban on bracelets promoting breast cancer awareness. They were subsequently suspended when they wore the bracelets during the school's Breast Cancer Awareness Day.

It's not the first time school administrators and students have clashed over what's appropriate to wear in schools, and it won't be the last. Everything from explicit T-shirts to gang-related colours have been banned from various public schools across North America.

But seldom has a case gone all the way to the Supreme Court. The decision could determine what powers school administrators have in dictating what students can and can't wear to school.
