Can James Forcillo get a fair trial?

Accused cop's defence lawyer speaks to reporters

Since the first bystander video of Sammy Yatim being shot on a Toronto streetcar by a police officer was first uploaded to YouTube, it and others like it have been viewed hundreds of thousands of times. There have been dozens of articles written about the event, and a number of rallies and protests have taken place on Toronto's busiest thoroughfares.

Is there anyone in Toronto who isn't aware of the event, and hasn't already forged an opinion on the matter?

That's the challenge facing lawyers now that Toronto Const. James Forcillo will face a court after formally being charged with second-degree murder in Yatim's death.

Forcillo surrendered himself to police Tuesday morning and released on $510,000 bail. His next court appearance will be Sept. 30.

With all the evidence and commentary already spilled in this high-profile case, do you think Forcillo will be able to get a fair trial?
