Atari Breakout celebrated with cool Google Images search game

Games have gotten mighty sophisticated over the years, but there's something to be said for the fun that can be had with the really simple games. Google has brought back some of that fun today by transforming its Google Image search into the Atari classic Breakout, a simple brick-breaker game (which runs the risk of killing your productivity for the rest of the day ... sorry).

If you go to Google Images right now and search "Atari Breakout," your results will be transformed into a game interface; for those not familiar with the game, you move your mouse left and right to control a 'paddle' at the bottom of the screen to knock a ball into the coloured 'bricks.' In a modern twist, you can share your high score with friends on Facebook and Twitter, too.

Breakout was created by Nolan Bushnell and Steve Bristow, Mashable explains, debuting in 1976 in arcades. Later iterations made it to home consoles (including Super Breakout) and inspired countless knock-offs of the game in the years ahead.
